Transportation

Again, the location of the Town of Ridgeland is key to this aspect of industry. Ridgeland is located on Interstate 95, a transportation artery for the eastern United States, halfway between New York and Miami. Excellent transportation makes commuting distances short for our workforce. The Port of Charleston, only an hour and a half away, is the second-largest container port on the East Coast. And the Ports of Savannah and Port Royal are only an hour away. Commercial air service is available nearby at Savannah International Airport. This "Top 100" airport serves all of Ridgeland's traveling needs. Private planes can land at Ridgeland's general aviation airport that features a 3,100' by 70' paved, lighted runway. CSX railroad has an active line through town.

Industries in South Carolina stay competitive through workforce training opportunities offered at one of the 16 colleges of the South Carolina Technical College System as part of the award-winning CATT (The Center for Accelerated Technology Training) program. Higher education takes center stage at the nearby Technical College of the Lowcountry and the University of South Carolina, Beaufort Campus. Quality of Life

Ridgeland is a true "ambassador community" for South Carolina. The people really strive to make a lasting first impression with genuine enthusiasm. They aren't trying to keep the quality of life they enjoy a secret, like many others do. They benefit from some of the lowest costs of living in the country combined with all the conveniences of neighboring larger cities. Plus the intangible benefits of a small, southern town are numerous. Neighbors are more than the people who live next door. Smiling faces want you to join their churches, clubs, and
other organizations. Nature walks, hunting, fishing, world class golf at nearby courses, free tennis courts, famous beaches only 30 miles away, cultural events presented by the Cultural Council of Jasper County, a local museum, festivals, parks, restaurants -- everything you always wanted and all in a small town atmosphere.

Site selectors never have any problem selling the "quality of life" aspect of relocating to the town of Ridgeland. One visit, and the town sells itself. But don't take this web site's word for it. Read our newspapers and visit our schools and hospitals. Find out from the people who live and thrive, in Ridgeland's workforce why they have made Ridgeland their hometown.

Letter from the Chief

Welcome to the Town of Ridgeland website.

Through the efforts of dedicated volunteer and career firefighters, this department has provided our citizens with outstanding fire service for many years. The proficiency of our personnel goes well beyond the extinguishment of fire and enters into fields such as medical first responder, vehicle extrication, hazardous materials operations, fire prevention, code enforcement, fire investigation and last but certainly not least, public education.

We invite you to spend some time reading and learning about our department. Don't hesitate to call us, or stop in, should you have any questions or comments. You may also send e-mail to ridgefir@hargray.com.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,

Chief John H. Mingledorff
